1ST / BRUSSELS
In its own right, the Belgian city ranks first in the top international connections. This is reflected in the ratings of those surveyed, who not only take into account the connectivity of its airport, but also Belgium’s strategic location via rail or road to other European capitals.
2ND / ZURICH
The city’s airport goes by two names, either Zurich International Airport or Kloten Airport, due to the facilities being in this region. However, it is only a 15 km drive from the city centre, so it is not far away. The important thing is that the airport has very good connections to get there easily. All you have to do is take a train from the city, which takes only 9 minutes.
3RD / MADRID
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport is one of the most important international connection points in the world and the main airport for Ibero-American connections. It is only 12 km from the city centre and can be reached by metro in a short time via metro line 8. This is something that convinces respondents, as it is unusual in a large capital city to be able to get to the airport so quickly and so easily. Even those who have just enough time always arrive to catch their flight or to meet their relatives when they come to visit.
4TH / COPENHAGUEN
Copenhagen Airport is 8 kilometres from the city centre. It can be reached by a variety of transport systems, including train, metro and bus. Exactly, it is located on the island of Amager, which might be thought to affect its connections, but the city is well organised so that the airport can be reached in a short space of time. With the train service, for example, you can get there quickly because the frequency of trains is set at 10-20 minute periods depending on the time of day.
5TH / AMSTERDAM
The experience of using the flexible international connections provided by the airport is highly valued. This means that, although thousands and thousands of travellers come together, there are not the problems of traffic jams and long queues that are experienced at airports in other European cities.
6TH / GENEVA
Although it is no longer the seat of the United Nations, a role that Geneva held from 1920 to 1947, it continues to be of great international importance. In addition, the UN uses the Palais des Nations as a venue for its meetings.
7TH / FRANKFURT
Frankfurt Airport is the largest airport in all of Germany and is also one of the world’s busiest airports in terms of annual traffic volume. In fact, to take advantage of air traffic, it was one of the survey data collection points in our study. It has two terminals, but a third is already under development for a future opening that will enhance its value.
8TH / MUNICH
Munich Airport, known as Franz Josef Strauss International Airport, is the seventh largest airport in Europe and has excellent facilities. Although there are some issues that keep it off the top of the ranking, our respondents agree that Munich deserves to be in the top 10 of Europe’s best connected cities.
9TH / BERLIN
Since 2020 Berlin has had a new airport which acts as the hub for all air traffic in the capital. Previously, a combination of three airports – Schönefeld, Tegel and Tempelhof – was used, which logistically was not the best option for travellers and residents. For the time being, the new airport still has a long way to go, and because it is so new, many people have not yet used it.
10TH / ROME
There are three airports in the city that divide up the work depending on various aspects, but the main one and the one that handles international flights is Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. Its only drawback is that it is not very close to the city centre, as the distance is about 35 km. This means you have to leave well in advance to avoid missing flights or keeping visitors waiting to see the residents.
