1ST / COPENHAGUEN
Surprisingly, it is clear from the results of the people we surveyed that Copenhagen has the best variety of gastronomic offerings in Europe. A very close second-place finisher, Madrid, also garnered a large number of votes. The same is true for Lisbon, which with its third place in the ranking has remained firmly among the best European gastronomies.

2ND / MADRID
Visiting Madrid for the first time means discovering a gastronomy rich in flavour and local ingredients, classic dishes that have been enjoyed for hundreds of years. It is therefore reasonable that Madrid’s gastronomy has been ranked second in the survey results. There are plenty of reasons for this, from the fantastic flavours to the quality of the ingredients and the fact that Madrid is home to many of the nation’s top chefs, international offerings and some of the most unmissable restaurants.

3RD / LISBON
Food has evolved in Lisbon in recent years to the point of introducing new flavours and recipes that are revolutionising the Portuguese gastronomic experience at full speed. This is happening without leaving aside the more classic dishes and traditional flavours that continue to be very present in the most classic places, in the tascas and in the restaurants that keep alive the tradition of a gastronomy that dates back to the past.

4TH / PRAGUE
Prague has some of the best gastronomy in the Czech Republic, which has favoured the city in the rankings, where it comes in fourth place behind Copenhagen, Madrid and Lisbon. The city’s food is full of spices and is heavily weighted towards meats. Some of the most popular dishes in its restaurants include utopenec, knedliky balls and svíčková sirloin steak. A city of good life and culture, which is also reflected at the table.

5TH / BERLIN
Berlin is a drastic move away from more elegant and modern styles of dining towards a cuisine where the focus is on quantity and satisfaction. This makes it less attractive for travellers on holiday, but on the contrary, it generates a great sense of well-being among foreigners living in the city.

6TH / BRUSSELS
Brussels is a place of culinary contrasts which convinced our respondents, who ranked it sixth in the gastronomy category. The reasons for this success are to be found in the efficiency of some of Brussels’ recipes, which have the capacity to appeal to everyone. In addition, its multicultural European influence allows it to offer a wide gastronomic variety.

7TH / PARIS
French cuisine, considered one of the finest in the world, finds some of its best restaurants and recipes in Paris. Eating in Paris means enjoying dishes such as Boeuf Bourguignon, a stewed meat cooked in red wine, escargots or traditional foie gras. However, its fame and elegance has only helped Paris to rank seventh in our survey.

8TH / ROME
Rome’s food is known the world over and tends to be one of the most easily exported to all kinds of countries due to the popularity of Italian restaurants. This takes a little bit of the impact out of discovering Rome, but it is also a good thing in that it helps to make getting used to your new life in Rome a little easier.

9TH / BARCELONA
Barcelona enters the top ranking that has been formed with the results of our respondents in the gastronomy category, although only securing ninth place. In contrast to Madrid, the other Spanish city present in the results, Barcelona is at a lower level due to the absence of local dishes as renowned as those of the capital.

10TH / ZURICH
Zurich’s gastronomic impact is not negative, but it comes tenth on our list and that means it is below much tastier options. Some of the cities that beat Zurich in this respect are Copenhagen, Madrid or Berlin. In general, you will find that Zurich’s food is hearty, possibly with traditional recipes that were prepared to help get you through the colder winter months.
