1ST / MUNICH
The consensus based on the results of our survey respondents confirms that Munich is one of the safest cities in Europe. It ranks first in this category and outperforms other very safe places such as Zurich, The Hague or Copenhagen.
2ND / ZURICH
It should come as no surprise that Zurich was ranked second in our survey. It is an absolutely safe city where you have very little to worry about while living in the city. Crime, conflicts or other problems that reduce the cities’ ability to guarantee its residents a peaceful life are under control and do not become real problems for the inhabitants.
3RD / THE HAGUE
Perhaps because it is the administrative capital of Austria, and because it is the home of Austria’s top officials, The Hague is a very safe place. This is borne out by the results of our survey, which ranked the city third in this category. It is only behind Munich and Zurich in this respect, which is very positive.
4TH / COPENHAGUEN
The same fourth position that Copenhagen achieved in the category of international connections is also achieved, based on the survey data, in the area of security. The Danish capital is only behind Munich, Zurich and The Hague, and comfortably beats the results obtained by Vienna, Geneva and Lisbon, which are also among the top ten European cities in terms of security.
5TH / MADRID
Madrid is one of the safest cities in Spain, a place where violent crime is not prevalent, although tourists are not exempt from the risk of pickpockets, especially in the city centre. But it is rare for residents to suffer one of these incidents, as it is easy to take security measures to avoid them. To better understand how safe the city is, one only has to consider that it is the third largest city in Europe with the lowest number of homicides.
6TH / GENEVE
Ranked 6th in the top of the safest cities in Europe by our survey respondents, Geneva is one of the most peaceful places to live. Violent crime is virtually non-existent and has been for years. There are no neighbourhoods to avoid at night or anything like that, as is the case in other destinations.
7TH / FRANKFURT
Frankfurt is not the safest city in Germany, but it is still part of one of the safest countries in Europe and as such is ranked as the seventh safest city in this respect. When asked about personal experiences in terms of safety, the surveys found that the main train station areas tend to have the highest level of conflict. The Frankfurt police, identifiable by the term Polizei, have, like all other police officers in Germany, the motto of being a friend to the citizens and helping them in any way they need.
8TH / VIENNA
The level of security offered by the city is well rated, so much so that it is ranked eighth among all European cities according to our survey respondents. The level of crime is low and the city is perceived as a safe place to live.
9TH / AMSTERDAM
The Amsterdam government has put a lot of effort into making the city safer and leaving behind the problems and incidents of the past. Its work is paying off, as it is already ranked ninth in our survey. At the same time, in recent years it has also been a city chosen by various safety barometers as one of the places in Europe where life can be enjoyed with the lowest level of risk.
10TH / ROTTERDAM
The crime rate is higher than in other European regions, but the situation in Rotterdam has changed a lot in the last decades. It is only important to be careful in certain areas at certain times of the night when light is scarce.
